Davis, Nell Meeks

A long-time resident of Brentwood, TN, died July 10, 2011, in Danville, KY. She is survived by her husband Dr. Douglas Davis; two sons: Douglas III (Sharon) of Perryville, KY and Dennas (Ruth) of Franklin, TN; and three grandchildren, (Lindsey, Evan, and Valeria. A memorial service is scheduled at the Owen Chapel Church of Christ in Brentwood for Sunday, July 17, at 2 p.m.

Nell’s artistic abilities were revealed in the poetry and painting included in the celebration of life program.

Autumn Lights

Today it’s raining leaves, like yellow lights, they herald autumn’s glory.

Trembling and tumbling as they fall, they look for comfort in the song of birds.

As sunshine glitters on their hue, they hug the ground, they hide the deck.

Dog’s paws rustle in their gold. Some enter the house, tangled in dog tails.

Some ride the briskness, safe for a day, curled against the fern’s foliage.

Some land on summer’s memory. Hiding among scarlet begonias. Forgetful for a time…of change.
