I never saw Glen without a smile, a tie, and every hair in place. When we were trying to raise money for the old Hobby Shop, we came up with small fundraising dinners and breakfasts in people’s homes. John and Ruth Rucker hosted a breakfast in their log cabin and the Huffs were among the paying guests. Our daughter Leslie and friends agreed to sing and play Bluegrass music for entertainment. The Huffs immediately jumped up and to our delight began to clog.

When Hurricane Andrew struck, churches wanted to send supplies. A semi pulled up behind Swang at Lipscomb U and the supplies started coming. Glen organized food boxes from his store, each loaded with the same things: flour, sugar, beans, etc. Seven semis left for Florida and it may be that at that time Disaster Relief was born.

It soon became evident that people in disaster areas could not use foodstuffs that had to be prepared because they often had no homes, no electricity. Glen changed the boxes dramatically to cans of edibles, can openers, soap, toothbrushes, and so forth, every useful item having a precise spot in a box as those boxes moved on conveyor belts past volunteers. Disaster Relief has served hundreds of thousands of people in need across the nation because of the vision of the Huffs and people of like minds.

Huff, Honor
