Virginia Plumlee Karnes, beloved mother and grandmother, died in Panama City, Florida, on March 26. Born in Kentucky in July 1921, Virginia moved to Hendersonville in 1929. She graduated from Lipscomb College in 19939 and later earned a kindergarten teaching certificate from Peabody College.

She worked at Life & Casualty for ten years. Virginia worked as a teacher and director at Otter Creek Church of Christ Kindergarten from 1961 to 1990. She dearly loved working with Otter Creek children.

In 1948 she married R. Jack Karnes, Jr., and moved to Green Hills. She and Jack lived there until 2005 when they moved into Belmont Village Assisted Living Center. She moved to Panama City in 2017.

She was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ and previously worshiped at Otter Creek Church of Christ for many years. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, A. A. and Mayme Hayes Plumlee; husband, Jack (2006); brother, Kenneth, and sister, Josephine, both of Lakeland, Florida. Survivors include a son, Lloyd Karnes (Susan) of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter, Lynda Breegle, of Panama City, Florida; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Virginia wanted to thank friends and “Pals” at Belmont Village for their companionship and care.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 7, from 2-4 p.m., at Woodlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort (disasterreliefeffort.org), PO Box 111180, Nashville, TN 37222.
