Parker, Louise

still living in Savannah

Comments by Sandra Collins

Louise Parker graduated from MTSU as an English major and moved to Nashville around 1942, where she lived the rest of her life with the exception of a few years in Winston-Salem where (Sheryl) was born. She and her husband started going to Otter Creek because their thirteen-year-old daughter wanted to be where Chip Arnold and other friends were. The family stayed. Louise was a member for over fifty years. She was hired by the Ford Foundation as an assistant to teachers at Hillsboro High School, then later at Peabody (Demonstration) School as an aide to math teachers.

Louise was articulate, knowledgeable, always eager to learn, civic-minded, always on top of current local and national news, adaptable to the changes around her even when she lost a fight in zoning issues, a member of a group that exercised together three times a week for twenty-five years, lifelong friends of Bob and Margaret Kendrick, Lola Stinson, and longtime members at Otter Creek. She loved hearing Dr. A.J. Levine’s lessons on the Bible and went to hear her whenever she heard where she would speak. She watched all of Dr. Levine's videos and listened to her CDs.

All who knew Louise miss her, miss her wisdom, miss the inquiring mind, miss the avid reader of great books, like Team of Rivals. She was a stalwart, unflinching member of Otter Creek for over fifty years-- weathering change with resilience as the Palm trees do in the area of Charleston where she will be living
