Elmo Phillips, ninety-six, a retired real estate agent died yesterday, St. Thomas Hospital. Graveside services 11 a.m. tomorrow, Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashville, Woodbine Funeral Home in charge. Survivors wife Myrtle Baars Phillips, daughter Betty Hagan, Tompkinsville, KY, sons Robert, Nashville and Dr. William Phillips, Malibu, California; brothers, Guy, Pulaski, Tenn. and Julius Phillips, Memphis; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Myrtle Byron Basrs Phillips—Age ninety. Saturday, June 25, 1994. Born May 19, 1904 in Linden, Tennessee. Daughter of Oscar and Maude Tucker Baars and married to Elmore Phillips on September 5, 1929. She was a graduate of David Lipscomb College and George Peabody College for Teachers. While at Lipscomb, she served as Editor of the Backlog. She was designated by Lipscomb, Woman of the Decade 1920-1929 in 1980. Her thirty-year teaching career began in Columbia, Tennessee. She also taught at David Lipscomb High School, Hume Fogg High School, Robertson Academy and was teaching at Tusculum Elementary School when she retired in 1971.
She was a member of the Granny White Church of Christ. She is survived by two sons, Dr. William B. Phillips of Malibu, California and Robert T. Phillips of Evansville, Indiana, one daughter, Mrs. Sam Hagan of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, three grandchildren, Kevin Hagan of Nashville, Karen Nussbaumer of Clarksville and Kathy Herod of Richmond, Virginia; three great-children, Jessica and Megan Herod and Zachary Nussbaumer. Her remains are at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, where the family will receive friends Monday, June 27 1994 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Family and Friends will assemble in the Southside of Woodlawn Memorial Park, Terrace Gardens Section for graveside services on Tuesday, June 28, 1994 at 10 a.m. with Charles Chumley officiating.
