Shaub, Jane Walls

9/25/2016

Jane Walls Shaub passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 25th, 2016, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her parents, John Henry and Claude Ann Walls, her husband Clarence and her siblings, Martin, Lilla, John, Margaret, Grace, Polly, George and Sam. Born in Guntersville, Alabama on May 18th, 1926, she was the “Baby” of nine children. She attended Marshall County High School and David Lipscomb University, graduating from Peabody School at Vanderbilt. She then moved to Washington, DC, to work at the Pentagon, an experience and period in her life she often fondly shared and reminisced about. Upon returning to Nashville, she met her husband of sixty-two years, Clarence Shaub. They made their home in Nashville and Brentwood, raising four children here. For many years they would travel in the winter to their home in Longboat Key, Florida, where they enjoyed their “SnowBird” friends, with whom they remained close and played much golf.

In addition to her commitment and love of her large extended family, she loved gardening, bridge and golf, maintaining a garden in her backyard until the time of her passing at ninety. She played golf throughout her life, often playing three times a week in her competitive games. Through her love of golf, she often volunteered to help introduce golf to a younger female generation. She was active in Nashville’s golf programs to develop and encourage play between women throughout all of Davidson County, becoming an officer of the Nashville Women’s Golf Association. She was active volunteering in the Nashville Community in programs to help children and families, particularly the Fannie Battle Day Home, and sponsored missionaries for Christian outreach throughout Asia and Israel.

Mrs. Shaub is survived by her children Robert Judd Shaub, Margaret Ann (Clyde) Barton, John Selden Shaub and James Luton (Anna) Shaub II; grandchildren Christy (Danley) McDonel, Anna (Brian) Cathey, Brian (Christane) Shaub, Angela (David) Dedman, Michele (Chris) Holifield, Mary (Brad) Sparks, Laura (Eric) Fuller, Edward (Amber) Barton, Colin Shaub, Ryan Shaub, Katie (John) Thackston, Jim Shaub III, Caroline Shaub; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Aiden and Charlotte Cathey, Porter, Garrison, Abbigale and Hanna Dedman, Loren and Brady Holifield, Esther and Josiah Shaub, and Molly and Jack and Hayden Johnson, and Brittany Moore.
