Charles Daniel Askew, age sixty-five, was born July 9, 1948, in Memphis, TN. He passed away on June 17, 2014. He was a devout Christian, husband, and father. He graduated from Oklahoma Christian University. After college, he moved to Nashville where he spent the greater part of his professional life as a highly successful mortgage banker. Dan was an active member of Harpeth Hills Church of Christ. He strongly valued his faith, family, and friends.
As the unofficial mayor of Green Hills, Dan truly loved the city of Nashville. He was given the Andrew Benedict Award from Regions Financial, the highest award given to an employee for outstanding service. In addition, he earned the Regions Financial’s Chairman’s Club for both production and cross-sell origination; the Nashville Mortgage Bankers Association for “Outstanding Cross-Sell Originator”; Regions Mortgage “Top Purchase Money Producer”; NMBA “Gold Award of Excellence” for top sales; and NMBA “President’s Award of Excellence” for his commitment, dedication, and contribution to the mortgage industry. For only the second time in its history, the Brentwood Rotary Club created an award, naming it the Dan Askew Inspiration Award, which will be given to people who exemplify the enthusiasm and love for Rotary.
Preceded in death by parents, Dorothy and Peyton Askew and sister Joy Hale (Tommy). Survived by his wife, Elaine; sons, Daniel Askew (Rachel), Kennon Askew (Stephanie); daughter, Anna Askew; granddaughter, Rowan Askew; and countless other extended family members.
Visitation will be Friday, June 20 from 10-12 noon with funeral services following at 2 p.m. Visitation and service will be held at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ on Old Hickory Blvd., with minister Chris Smith officiating. Graveside services immediately following at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville. In lieu of flowers, Dan requested donations be made to Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation.
